Build our own ground

Fingers crossed, then somewhere on here could be FC United of Manchester’s new ground. After the disappointment of not getting Ten Acres Lane, Newton Heath then a field in Moston should be the new site. Subject to all the permissions and hoops being jumped thru.
So who are the Ronald Johnson Playing Fields dedicated to? A bit of research reveals it was Captain Ronald Lindsay Johnson who was killed in the summer of 1917 whilst serving with the Royal Field Artillery. He was 28 years old. The family were noted Manchester industrialists owning a Wire Works (that’s wire netting, miners lamps and lots of other stuff in metal), and he was the chairman of Messers Johnson, Clapham & Morris. The playing fields were opened on 17th June 1922.
There was another brother William Morton Johnson who was killed at the front in July 1916. Aged 34 and chairman of the family business. Now he did play football, captain for the Trinity Harrovians whilst at Cambridge. Not sure what code that was - Association or Harrow Rules. Can’t find any Playing Fields named after him though.
Here is the irony bit. The Johnson’s were born and brought up at Woodleigh on Bradgate Road in Dunham Massey and educated at top public schools. Very leafy, positively woody and posh, not like post-industrial Moston.
