Post Match : Shirts From Tab Packets →
800 discarded cigarette packets from all over the world made into football shirts. It’s an exhibition at Cube Gallery, Manchester until 20th August. It’s called Post Match, it’s by Leo Fitzmaurice and it’s pretty damn good. http://www.cube.org.uk/exhibitiondetails/leofitzmauricepostmatch/40

A Footballing Moment (In Paint)  →
Not got a clue it’s called “Megalolz for Zaire ‘74 “. You’re going to have to go to the site - click the pic. It’s a project. If you know what it’s all about let us all know. Taking my sketch pad to the next game, primitive scribbles to be posted.

Ground not needed, ground wanted
When teams, would-be players and fans of football are desperate for some decent facilities and a ground of their own then it makes this an even sadder picture. This is Ewood Bridge, the neglected remains of Haslingden FC, then Stand Athletic. Spotted from the East Lancashire Railway by my mate Colin. That’s a revived steam line from Bury to Rawtenstall [ pronounced Rotten-stall ] and a...

The Shrinking Cities of football →
When your local factories, offices and shops start to close, maybe you should worry for your football club. Maybe you’d better check this out Liverpool, Glasgow, Sheffield…the next St.Etienne. Click title for the story..

‘GOSH IT’S TOSH’ was it the worst book →
The worst book Ian Bone ever bought. It must be bad, and i bet the Class War warrior has done a lot of reading. This blog does cover football from time to time and does a good line in “Bash the Toffs”

P.G. Wodehouse football story
The dashing writer P.G. Wodehouse wrote a short story about football. It’s the 11 v 11 game but it’s toffs, and one particular chap called Bob who gets to play in the big Varsity match - that’s Oxford v. Cambridge in big shorts. It’s a jolly zippy read, and quite amusing. The big match is described through the eyes of a young lady who doesn’t usually attend matches....

Build our own ground
Fingers crossed, then somewhere on here could be FC United of Manchester’s new ground. After the disappointment of not getting Ten Acres Lane, Newton Heath then a field in Moston should be the new site. Subject to all the permissions and hoops being jumped thru. So who are the Ronald Johnson Playing Fields dedicated to? A bit of research reveals it was Captain Ronald Lindsay Johnson who was...

United 1958 re-made yet again
I don’t know how many books and Tv programmes have been made about the tragic Munich air crash - 6th February 1958 - but it must run into scores. A score is twenty and it’s a word that is little used these days. A new drama-documentary in the forthcoming BBC2 drama series. It’s called United, and it’s got that bloke who used to be a Doctor Who in it. Somehow I get bit...
